Training videos can cost a fortune to produce!

Training videos can cost a fortune to produce!

Before the turn of the century (wow, I seem old!) companies were spending hours and hours repeatadly training staff on the relevant tasks needed to complete their work. Not only was this time consuming, but if the trainee left the company, more hours were needed to be spent ro train up the next employee.  Nowadays, digital provides training teams more tools to help easily train new employees and not have to invest hours and money on training staff.  Before the advent of digital video platforms such as Youtube and Lynda, companies were left with just utilising teams to push their training needs.

Going back in time, when cheap video cameras and editing equipment become available to the public, not only did this change the home video market, companies also jumped onto the new technology to push their services to businesses.  One of these services which cropped up and boomed during the 90's was video training.  Companies would invest in videographers and editors to film and put together training videos which they could play to new staff to help with their training.  This would literally save companies thousands of pounds a year by not having to hire lots of training staff.

I can certainly remember the first jobs I had when I was younger where I was sat down and instructed to watch a video on a certain subject, task or job requirement.

Jump back to the present day and most workplace or university training sessions on modern techologies is done via online platforms.  Training platforms such as Lynda and Youtube offer a staggering amount of informative training videos on literally any subject you can think of - from instructions for plumbing engineers on how to refill a boiler, to learning how to keyframe on the latest Adobe editing software.

Online training videos

These days, if companies want to create training videos on any subject, there are local video editing companies who will be able to help you create any type of training video you desire.  However, the cost of hiring a company for any kind of video work will be expensive, with costs covering equipment, operators, editors, music, voiceover artists and title designers.

Furthermore, some companies will not be able to afford to hire a video company to create training videos.  What might be more of a stress is that the same company may of spent a lot of money years ago making training videos which are still relevant, but are on stuck on VHS.  How many of us still have a video player?  Even less companies nowdays will still be able to play video tapes!
